Darcy Spitz was born in Chicago and has lived in New York City for many years. She has a BFA in painting from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and an MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. In addition, she studied Medieval manuscript illumination at the School of Sacred Arts in New York City.
In addition to her work as an artist, she was a senior communications manager at the American Heart Association’s National Center for 29 years. In that role, she worked with the news media to promote peer reviewed scientific studies and statements. Exposure to world of science led her to create a visual world of “impossible biology” in some of her artwork.
Work at her day job never discouraged her from continuing to paint and draw, but it did curtail her ability to exhibit her work. Her work has been featured in one person shows at Ten Worlds Gallery, Marc Miller Gallery and many group shows as well as being in the permanent collection of the Chase Manhattan Bank.
