Darcy Spitz was born in Chicago and has lived in New York City for many years. She has a BFA in painting from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and an MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. In addition, she studied Medieval manuscript illumination at the School of Sacred Arts in New York City.

Her work is in the permanent collection of the Chase Manhattan Bank. She has had residencies at the Macdowell Colony and the Millay Colony.
